GHOSTS: Egg Ghost (Dalgyal Gwisin)kOREA

 

In Korea there is a terrifying ghost called the Egg Ghost (Dalgyal Gwisin) which gets its title from the lack of facial features. The ghost lacks eyes, ears, noses, and mouths making it have an egg-like appearance. Sometimes the egg ghosts don't have limbs. It's said that they were childless ghosts who have no relatives to hold ancestor memorial services. 

Though there isn't much to see with the ghost it is said that once seen and instant death will come. It's said that the ghost stalks hikers who wander too deep into forested mountains.

On July 31, 1901, a baby was found in Pheonix, Arizona. The baby was Hispanic. There's little information in this case.

MISSING: Geneva Long

 

On July 29, 1950, 27-year-old Geneva Long was last seen in Bakersfield, California. She may go as Jeanne Long. There is little information in this case. 

Geneva is a white female and was 27-years-old at the time. She's 5'11" to 6'2" and around 130 lbs. She has brown hair.

Unsolved Murder of Arthur "Buddy" Louis Schumacher

 

On July 24, 1925, around 9 a.m. 8-year-old Arthur "Buddy" Schumacher left his house in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. He had left with some neighborhood boys and was last seen by them after they hopped off a freight train they'd jumped on to get a ride to a nearby swimming hole. 

The boys said that a man on the train accosted and asked them where they were going. This scared the boys and they jumped out, but Buddy did not jump off with them. They then ran He jumped off on the otherside and the man also jumped off. They last saw Buddy at the train tracks with the man. 

A search would be done looking for Buddy. It was initially thought by police that maybe the freight had carried him far away or that he had accidentally drowned at the river where the boys planned to go. With there being no evidence of the boy showing up people began to suspect that he had been abducted. 

Buddy's body would be found 7 weeks later just a mile from his home. It was obvious that the young boy was murdered. His handkerchief was deep down his throat and he was missing some of his clothing. It's likely died the day he went missing and it's unknown what exactly his cause of death was.

There were many leads, but nothing panned out and Buddy's murder remains unsolved.

Urban Legends: Bride and Seek

 

A bride and groom were very young and had large and lavish wedding in the backyard of their now mansion. Many people came and not a single one thought that this was wrong. To the couple the wedding had gone perfectly.

With lots of celebrating and dancing after the reception like most events people started to leave. When about 20 people were left the young bride had gotten an idea. A game of hide and seek would be a perfect way to end the night. The groom was picked a the seeker and the bride quickly hid.

The groom started to become aggravated as he had found everyone else but not her. He was thinking she'd played a prank on her. People searched and searched for her with no avail. No one could find her, it was as if she had vanished. People had eventually went home giving up and the groom reported his bride missing.

The groom spent years being heart broken and living alone in the big mansion. wondering through the halls he wondered why his bride left him and he wondered what it would be like if she'd had stayed.

One day he had decided to go and clean the attic. While up there he notices an oak chest. He decides to open it. It had taken a bit of struggle, but he'd gotten it open.  He found something he never thought he would find. Inside the chest was the corpse of his bride.

On that day she had snuck inside to hide knowing that her groom would be searching for her outside. When she had gotten to the attic she found the oak chest and the lid hit her head and closed. The old rusted joints and lock had prevented her from opening it back up. The large house prevented people from hearing her screams. She'd died from suffocation soon after.

ABOUT THE URBAN LEGEND:

Even though the story is told like it had happened in modern times the urban legend has been around since the early 1800s. It's said that it had first been mentioned in a German newspaper in 1809. Later in 1823, Samuel Roberts wrote Ginevra which retold the tale. Then it was written into a Ballad called Mistletoe Bride Ballad. It isn't known if the tale was ever true, but it is one that's lasted for a long time.

Murder of Hannah Rogers Harding

By 1733 62-year-old Amaziah Harding and his wife 65-year-old Hannah had been together for around  40 years (the first child was born in 1694). The relationship had been abusive especially in the last 20 years of marriage. He would see her as a "Plague" in his life. 

On July 18, 1733, Hannah would die due to Amaziah's abuse at their home in Eastham, Massachusetts. He either beat her or threw her down the stairs, or both. This would lead to her death. He would bring her to their bed and wrap her in blankets to make it seem she died in her sleep. He would summon a neighbor woman to tell her his wife died.

As per local tradition, he asked the neighbor woman to dress and get his wife ready for burial. The neighbor was suspicious as she came over. An hour earlier one of their sons had told her that Hannah was in good health. Throughout the time he spoke as if he was grateful for her death that she was a "plague" in his life. Seeing that she had blood and bruises on her throat, lips, and cheek. Knowing he was abusive she asked how she died.

Amaziah told the woman that she had drank rum and sat on the door sill, and he laid in bed. he claimed to her when he woke up that morning that she was in the bed and would not respond to him. That she had died naturally. The neighbor woman saw through his lies and refused to get the body ready until the coroner saw the body. 

The coroner would state that Hannah died from foul play. Amaziah would be charged with capital murder. He would get the death penalty and hanged on June 5, 1734.

On July 14, 1902, an unknown person (gender not stated) died in Sheridan County, Wyoming. They are buried at Sheridan Municipal Cemetary. There is little information in this case.

In Melanesian Folklore, there is a demon named Abere. She’s seen as a beautiful woman who uses her sexual prowess to lure men into a water source. She will wait in the water naked among the mimia reeds. She calls out to men hoping they will follow her into the water. If he chooses to go into the water with her he’s doomed. Abere traps him among the reeds by using her powers over them and tangle them around him. She will then drown him and eat him. She is in control of several beautiful young women.

Murder of Harry Patterson

On July 8, 1914, a group of boys went to a swimming hole in Yeager, Oklahoma. A fight broke out between two close friends 13-year-old Nathan Halford and 12-year-old Harry Patterson. Nathan would then stab Harry in the chest with a knife. Harry would run and scream for help as he tugged at the knife. He would soon drop dead from it as the knife had hit his heart.

I could not find more information on the aftermath of this murder.

UNIDENTIFIED: July 7, 1914 St. Maries, Idaho John Doe

 On July 7, 1914, a man was shot in the leg in St. Maries, Idaho, and die. There's little information in this case and it's not stated if he was intentionally shot or if the person who shot him was known. It's just known that his identity was never discovered. 

He was a white male around 40-years-old.

MONSTERS: Samca

  A Samca is a creature in Romanian Legends as an ugly and terrible evil spirit. She can take many different forms like a large pig, a grinning dog with rotten teeth, a hairless cat with fiery bulging eyes, a crow with bloody eyes, and a large black spider. The most known version is of a naked woman with disheveled hair down to her feet, dried out breasts that touch the ground, small bright eyes, a tongue of fire, and iron hands with nails as sharp as knitting needles or hooked as sickles.

They show themselves at the end of the month usually around the full moon. With their large crooked mouth, they show in front of children under 4-years-old.  A disease that children get after the Samca appeared often called "the children's malice". This causes the child to be deathly ill. 

They also show themselves to women lying on their birth bed, and once the creatures are visible they touch the pregnant woman as if kneading them. This would either scare the women to death or cripple them for life. It's also said that the Samca would curse the newborns.

Samca goes by 19 names; Vestitia, Navadaria, Valnomia, Sina, Nicosda, Avezuha, Scorcoila, Tiha, Miha, Grompa, Slalo, Necauza, Hatavu, Hulila, Huva, Ghiana, Gluviana, Prava, and Samca. In order to avoid the Samca people would need to write all 19 names on the wall of the house or ask someone for a protective spell. If attacked the person who did the spell gets attacked, except if the person is of age the Samca cannot.

UNIDENTIFIED: July 3, 1954 Los Angeles, California John Doe

On July 3, 1954, on 560 Towne Ave. in Los Angeles, California the badly decomposed body of a man was found under a vacant house. It's believed that he may have been a homeless man who crawled underneath the house and passed.

He was a male that was pre 60 years old. He was 5'10" and 134 lbs. He had brown hair and his eye color is undetermined.

GHOSTS: Ghost Ship of Northumberland Strait

For at least the last 200 years a ship has been seen in the Northumberland Strait that separates Prince Edward Island from New Brunswick. It's a beautiful schooner with 3 or 4 masts of pure white sails which become fully engulfed in flames. This ship is said to be seen before the northeast wind and is a warning for an upcoming storm.

There are a number of legends and ghost stories surrounding this ghost ship. It's said that the crew has been seen climbing the masts before the ship completely sinks or vanishes. According to legend in 1900 the ship was seen and a group of sailors boarded a small sailboat in Charlottetown Harbour and tried to save the people on the ship. Only for the ship and crew to vanish before they got to it. 

It's unknown what ship the ghost ship is, but there are several theories. One is that it is the John Craig Light that shipwrecked off Shippigan Island. Another is the Colbum that was lost during a storm in 1838. The Isabella is another contestant as a ship that was lost in 1868 and was last seen by a light housekeeper at Amet Island on its way to South America. Some theorize that it is a pirate ship or pleasure craft set ablaze by a drunken brawl.

There are three natural causes of the sightings of this ghost ship.

The first is St. Elmo's fire, which is a weather phenomenon. which is when a burst of electricity is discharged from pointed objects when the atmosphere becomes heavily charged. Which can serve as a warning for lightning and is seen as a good omen for sailors. (click the link above for a better explanation).

It's possible that it's a form of fata morgana mirage caused by when warm air settles atop a distinct band of cool air and rays of light are bent as they pass through different temperatures. This makes things seem like they are floating, flipped upside down, flying, or being seen in great detail at a distance. (click link above for better explanation)

The third is more simple. It's possible that people seeing the ship is the brain trying to place or make sense of something there. If it's a foggy, or stormy night lights and such might make a trick of the eye.
